Sacred Ground Dance Performance Group is a select group of dancers from the studio who learn choreography to perform at various opportunities in the community. Since we do not participate in dance competitions, this is a great way to let dancers who are more serious about dance have opportunities to learn more dances and gain more experience performing all while serving those in our community.
Who Can Participate?
Anyone in 1st grade or older who is also enrolled in the dance technique classes at Sacred Ground Dance is welcome to audition. At the audition, we look for well established technique basics, flexibility, strength, ability to learn choreography quickly, ability to apply corrections and has a positive attitude.
When is the Audition?
Auditions for Performance Group for 2019-2020 Season are CLOSED. To audition for our 2020-2021 school year please attend auditions in May 2020 (Date TBA).
How Does the Audition Work?
Students must come at least 15 minutes early to have a parent fill out an audition form. While waiting, we encourage students to warm up and stretch since we will start the audition promptly. Auditions will cover Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Hip Hop. Students should bring tap shoes, jazz shoes, and inside sneakers if they have them. If your child does not have experience in one style, they may sit out of that portion of the audition, although we do encourage everyone to try out for all styles!
What is the Cost?
The cost for performance group will depend on how many styles your are chosen for. You will add anywhere from .5 – 2 hours to your monthly tuition and all students in the Performance Group will require a costume, Performance Group T-shirt (their mandatory practice attire) and accessories. Depending on which dances students are selected for, they may also be required to have pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes, tan jazz shoes and/or particular sneakers.
What is the Commitment?
Performance Group meets for rehearsals once a week on Thursday evenings. The time will depend on which dances you have been selected for. Once accepted into the Performance Group, we ask that all students stay committed throughout the entire school year. Attendance is a crucial part of the rehearsal process and allows us to move quickly through new routines. Rehearsals will be listed on our yearly schedule and will start the week after auditions. We expect dancers to practice what they learn at home each week so we can progress quickly during class and rehearsal times. As performances approach, we may need to call an extra rehearsal here and there – these extra times would be held on Saturday afternoons. Other commitments include attending performance opportunities as they arise.
Opportunity for Solos?
Students in the Performance Group are eligible for a solo, duet or trio as desired. For those interested, the cost is $180 for a solo (5 hour-long rehearsals) or $220 for a duet (6 hour-long rehearsals) or $285 for a trio (6 hour-long rehearsals). Additional rehearsals after the initial rehearsals will be $20/half hour. Solo, duet and trio students will also be able to perform at the studio’s spring performance (normally held in May) and at other Performance Group opportunities as time permits.
